How to Turn Your Nexus 7 into a Real Kindle Fire?

In these days, both the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire are becoming hot and hot. At the mention of Kindle Fire, the first thing comes in my head is it is a best E-book reader while Nexus 7 is a best entertainment tablet. It is of course reasonable that you cannot decide which to buy for your Christmas gift if you just want to choose from them, even though you have compared them.

Fortunately, now we can get (nearly) all of Amazon's great Android offerings on the Nexus 7 to turn it into a real Kindle Fire including the Kindle E-books.
Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire
In Android 4.1, you can enjoy Google Books, Google Music, Google Video, and the Google Play app store. Of course, you can upgrade the system to Android 4.2 to enjoy the new amazing features. But there are still plenty of people prefer to Amazon for books, music, and movies. Luckily, it is easy to get free Amazon's Kindle reader app and Amazon MP3 app using the Google Play app store. These two apps will give you access to your Kindle book library and Aussie Amazon MP3 collection.

Before you see Amazon-purchased Android apps on Nexus 7, you need to set Nexus 7’s security to allow installation of apps from "unknown sources". Enter into Nexus 7 settings, tap on Security, and check the box for "Unknown Sources".

Besides, you can get Amazon's Appstore app for Android from Amazon by visiting the Appstore Web page.Enter your email and check the download link at your e-mail on the Nexus 7.After the operations, you can find your purchased apps and start to download Android apps from google.

But you cannot really enjoy the Amazon video content (including free videos for Amazon Prime) since the unavailable Abode Flash service and the bad performance of the Google Video app and storefront matching the content, pricing, and capabilities of Amazon's video service.

But it is enough, right? At least, you have got the Kindle book and app library. So do you want to enjoy the Kindle Fire service on Nexus 7?

Nexus 10 Review: A Best but Cheap 10 inch Tablet

Google has released the second tablet Nexus 10 this month accompanied with Samsung after the launch of 7 inch Nexus 7.It has boomed since it is available at Google Play and it is quickly sold out internationally as well as LG Nexus 4.So, why does it attract people soon? Where does it better then Nexus 7? Let’s just explore the features of Nexus 10.
Nexus 10 review
Competitive Hardware and Display

Key points.
With a notable 10.1-inch 2560 x 1600 WQXGA display(300 ppi), Samsung gives Nexus 10 a dual-core 1.7GHz Exynos 5250 A15 processor with Mail T604 graphics and 2GB of RAM. You have two options of storage 16GB and 32GB.It has doubled the resolution of Nexus 7 and created the highest resolution even iPad 4 which sports 2048*1536(264ppi) cannot compete for in tablet market at present, the 1.7 GHz processor is the fastest as well.

Portability.
It measures 8.9mm and 603 grams which slightly thinner and lighter than the full-size iPad's 632 grams.

Camera.
Nexus 10 has a 5-megapixel rear camera for shooting videos at 1080p resolution, better than cameras on other tablets, going with a camera app. Of more practical use is the 1.9-megapixel front camera for video calls for Google+ and other social work.

Ports and
sensors.Ports include microUSB (for charge) and micro HDMI, and there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack and Pogo pins for use with a dock. All of the usual sensors include an accelerometer, digital compass, ambient light, gyroscope, barometer, microphone and GPS.

Battery.
The battery is a 9,000 mAh Li-Poly pack which Google says is likely good for up to nine hours of HD video playback.

Display.
With the 16:9 aspect ratio screen and more-than-Full-HD resolution, Nexus 10 is ideal for widescreen video playback without black framing bars.

Featured Software

Just like Nexus 4, Nexus 10 runs the latest
Android 4.2 Jelly bean. It takes many new useful and dazzling features. Most notably is Photo Sphere which allows you to create 360-degree images. You can also share the images or even add to Google Maps. Google Now, a Google's voice-powered assistant similar to Siri, brings you the information you care about like sports scores, weather, and even the status of packages from Amazon that have been shipped to you. Also there are many new amazing features about Android 4.2, you can check out this article” New features of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean You should know “.

Better Entertainment

Playing games.
Thanks to its high HD display, playing games on Nexus 10 has become a more excited experience. When playing a heavy game like Angry Birds Star Wars, it was awesome than ever. You will feel that never too clear.

Content side
.Approximately 600,000 apps and games are available, and up to 20,000 songs and many films can found at Google Play store, less than Apple store but Google is now working hard on it and more and more contents will be offered.

Fastest Web.
With a strong Wi-Fi connection, you can get a fast web speed and use YouTube as a breeze. Also, the 2 GB of RAM helped apps open quickly and made multi-tasking very efficient.

The bad Parts

No memory card slot.
Nexus 10 comes in 16GB and 32GB models, and if that’s simply not enough, you just cannot expand the storage, which is really terrible for us.

No 4G LTE.
If you want a 4G LTE Nexus 10 just like Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9, you will be disappointed. At least at the moment, Nexus 10 is a Wi-Fi only tablet.

Price

$399
gets you the 16GB version, while $499 hooks the 32GB model, which has $100 lower than iPad 4.

Conclusion

With superior design and swift performance, Nexus 10 is no doubt one of the best Android tablets to date. Including beautifully sharp screen with highest HD display and the fastest processor of any Android tablet, the best Android OS and amazing Photo Sphere, Nexus 10 make a difference. It's light, durable, and it is an incredibly cool concept. The $399 price tag is not expensive with such specs. But the lack of expanding storage is still one thing that keeps people away from it. But if you don’t care this and you just want a cheaper tablet with more customization, then go with the Nexus 10.

Upgrade Your Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7 to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

LG Nexus 4 and Samsung Nexus 10 has finally come to us today, and it is said to both of them are sold out internationally, also Nexus 4 and 32GB are sold out in US. We have to say it is really a big situation. Furthermore, Google starts offering the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7 users with the upgrade of OTA. If you don’t want to wait for Google and prefer to manually upgrade directly, then the way this article will introduce is probably what you find.

At present, Google has released the latest firmware for Android 4.2 for Galaxy Nexus devices (GSM version, not available for LTE provided by Verizon) and Android 4.2 ROM for Nexus 7.Users can flash the devices manually with firmware or ROM.

 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
If you use Galaxy Nexus device, you need to download takju ROM (Below link), then you can quickly install the Android 4.2 on your smartphone. You can do it with ROM Manager developed by ClockworkMod, a free download on Google Play, or just flash the system manually if you have the ability.

For Nexus 7, it is similar to upgrade Android 4.1 to Android 4.2.Click the below nakasi link to download the Android ROM file, again use either ROM Manager or the manual method to install Android 4.2 on your Nexus 7.The process is not too hard for most Android users.

But if you are neither familiar with system flashing nor know CA, then you might be better off waiting for Google’s OTA update to arrive which should happen in the next few days.

Jelly Bean 4.2 is an incremental update from Jelly Bean 4.1, and brings a number of new features, for example, photo sphere panorama style software camera. When you upgrade your Nexus device, you can enjoy the new features just like on Nexus 4 or Nexus 10.

It is said that Apple’s iPad Mini will be released on this October 23, which is probably is the most anticipated one in tablet market after so much surprise both in price and specs in 2012.Certyaily you can see that the majority of the new stunning tablets come 7 inch, which is smaller than before. So which of they are most likely be iPad mini’s strong competitors? The following list can give you the advice.
iPad Mini

Google Nexus 7
There is no need to explain why Nexus 7 is a member. Actually, it is Nexus 7 that takes people into a 7 inch tablet world completely. Amazon Kindle Fire HD
Amazon Kindle Fire HD is another new attractive 7 inch tablet. Maybe you will think of Kindle Fire, but I just think its spec is not that good as this one. The same price $199 as Nexus 7, Amazon Kindle Fire HD sports a higher resolution, a 720p front camera, Bluetooth, and the best speakers. Also, you can enjoy a penchant for watching books, movies, TV shows, and music.

Nook HD vs Amazon Kindle Fire HD vs Nexus 7, which one is your thing?

7-inch tabletSince Barnes & Noble unveiled its new tablets Nook HD and Nook HD+, the new competition to make the best 7-inch tablet appears to be a three-company race: Barnes & Noble with the Nook; Google with its Nexus 7 and Amazon with Kindle Fire HD.Certainly it is indeed a blessing for all the customers who just want to own a android tablet when the new similar tablet is announced for the more options. But undoubtedly it has made us at a loss to decide which one to buy or order. So, we just need to differentiate them and choose our most proper one.

First thing ,price?

  • Google Nexus 7: $199 for 8G and $249 for 16G
  • Amazon Kindle Fire HD: $ 199 for 16G and $249 for 32G
  • Nook HD: $199 for 8G and $229 for 16G with the up to 64GB expanded storage.
As to the price, I think all the three are almost equal.

Check out the screen quality
  • Google Nexus: 1280×800 HD display (216 ppi), Back-lit IPS display, Scratch-resistant Corning glass, weighs 340g
  • Kindle Fire HD: 1280×800 resolution (216ppi), HD display with polarizing filter and anti-glare technology for rich color and deep contrast from any viewing angle, weighs 395g
  • NOOK HD: 1440 x 900 pixel resolution, 243 ppi, fully laminated screen with no air gaps reduces glare and provides extra-wide viewing angles, weighs only 315g.
Nook HD definitely has the best display for its highest resolution for wonderful for video viewing and text reading, although the experience on Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD are also good. Also it is the lightest one which makes it more comfortable for traveling with a tablet.

Have a look at the basic spec

  • Google Nexus 7: 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 with 1G RAM running Android 4.1Jelly Bean;1.2MP front-facing camera; battery can last 9 hours video or10 hours of web browsing or reading; the input/output includes Micro USB, Microphone, NFC (Android Beam);supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth
  • Amazon Kindle Fire HD: Dual-core 1.2GHz OMAP4460 with 1G RAM running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich;1.3 megapixels front-facing HD camera;11 hours continuous use are available; USB 2.0 (micro-B connector),Micro-HDMI (micro-D connector) port and built-in microphone are supported for input/output; supports public and private Wi-Fi networks or hotspots that use the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11n standard with support for WEP, WPA and WPA2 security using password authentication; does not support connecting to ad-hoc (or peer-to-peer) Wi-Fi networks.
  • Nook HD: 1.3 GHz Dual-Core, OMAP 4470, 512MB RAM for 8GB, 1GB RAM for16GB;runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich; battery can last 10.5 hours reading, 9 hours video; Input/output ports covers universal 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack, charging port, expandable microSD slot, HDMI port and Dual stereo speakers; Supports Wi-Fi® (802.11b/g/n)
Through the specs described above, we can found that Nook HD and Amazon Kindle Fire HD are better than Nexus 7 in terms of processor and battery life. Kindle Fire HD is also the best one speaking of the Input/output ports and its HD camera indeed focuses people’s attention. Nexus 7 runs the most advanced android system while the others run the ICS and its special NFC service can be the good selling point. Nook HD seems no obvious advantages in these specs.

We can get the entertainment from…

  • Google Nexus 7: the entire Google Play app market, a wider, better selection of games and software across the board. Google Play Store (books, comic books, magazines/newspapers, movies), about 600,000 apps, over 4 million books
  • Amazon Kindle Fire HD: Amazon Store (books, comic books, magazines/newspapers, movies), 51,000 apps, Whispersync with Voice pairs reading with an audiobook,X-Ray, FreeTime, etc. Over 950,000 books
  • Nook HD: Barnes & Noble store(books, comic books, magazines/newspapers, movies), about 10,000 apps, Nook magazine, Nook Video, Nook Catalog for shopping, Over 2.5 million books
For entertainment, Kindle fire HD maybe the most appropriate one, but if you just want to more games and apps, Nexus 7 is absolutely the right choice. Nook HD is more suitable for a family or kids for its featured kids’ books. Of course, for reading magazine, Nook HD is better than the others.

See what formats the devices Supported

  • Google Nexus 7:ePUB, PDF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, WEBP, AAC, FLAC, MP3, MIDI, WAV, OGG, AMR, MP4
  • Amazon Kindle Fire HD: Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively, Audible Enhanced format (AAX), DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, non-DRM AAC, MP3, MIDI, PCM/WAVE, OGG, WAV, MP4
  • Nook HD: PDF, ePUB, DRP, ePIB, FOLIO, OFIP, CBZ, TXT, RTF, XLS, DOC, PPT, PPS, PPSX, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, LOG, CSV, EML, ZIP, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, MP4, M4A, 3GP, AAC, MP3, FLAC, WAV, OGG, AMR, MP4, 3GP, WEBM
We can found that Nook HD can support the most formats. And since the others cannot support most video formats, when watching the other format video,it just needs some apps or programs to convert it.

Last…

In a summery, Nexus 7 is also the most advanced tablet in technology,Amazon Kindle fire is good one to have the enjoyment at your part time,Nook HD has the best display view and it is of course the best one for kids and also for magazines. I think you must have your decision now, and just take it.

The Comparison between Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7

Amazon Kindle Fire HD vs Google Nexus 7

Since Amazon released the version of 7-inch new Kindle Fire HD last week, the android tablet market is boiling after the launching of Nexus 7. Amazon announced its too faster than Nexus 7 with the same price of $199.So which one really deserves your cold hard cash?Let’s just do some comparison about them.

Appearance

Kindle Fire HD has 7-inch HD LCD display working at the same 1280 x 800 pixel resolution as the Nexus 7 launched with a 7-inch LCD display running at a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution that offers decent angles and good contrast levels.

Amazon also reckons it's got the edge with its polarising filter improveing the IPS display's viewing angles and anti-glare technology cutting glare by around one-quarter while Nexus 7 doesn’t offer them. The Kindle Fire HD also has a Micro-HDMI connector for HD video output. Nexus has only Micro USB port.

The Kindle Fire HD has an "HD" front-facing camera for video chat, while the Nexus 7 has a 1.2MP front-facing video camera for the same purpose. The Kindle Fire also has a pair of dual-driver stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus to deliver decent music playback and clearer video dialogue. The Nexus 7 has a plain old speaker.

One small detail is the fact that the 7-inch Amazon Kindle Fire HD, a tab that measures 193 x 137 x 10.3 mm with 395 grams, is a bit thinner but heavier than the Google Nexus 7 measuring 198.5 x 120 x 10.5 mm and weighing 340 grams. However, the Nexus 7 has a significantly smaller footprint.

Important Tech specs

The Kindle Fire HD processor is a Texas Instruments OMAP4 4460 (its bigger 8.9-inch brother has a 4470, which has faster graphics), which is a dual-core model running at 1.2GHz. The Nexus 7 processor is a Tegra 3, a quad-core rated at 1.3GHz. Both devices promise all-day battery life, with the Kindle Fire HD promising 11 hours of continuous use and the Nexus 7 nine.

For storage, Amazon Kindle Fire HD comes with 16GB and 32GB ,which is double the amount of storage as the Nexus 7 comes with 8GB and 16GB.

For connectivity, both devices are Wi-Fi only (a 3G Nexus 7 is incoming), and the Kindle Fire has has dual MIMO Wi-Fi antennas and operates in both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands, and  using MIMO data transfer technology means stronger Wi-Fi reception and smoother video and music streaming. The Nexus 7 has a single antenna and only uses the increasingly crowded 2.4GHz frequency band, but it does have an NFC chip for device-to-device communication, and built-in GPS, accelerometer and magnetometer for location- and position-based apps.

Entertainment

Undoubtedly, the cool tricks on the new Kindle Fire HD are surely to appeal to lots of folks. Whispersync with Voice pairs reading with an audiobook, which is notably cool, especially when Samuel L. Jackson is reading to you. X-Ray is a great way to track down all of the mentions of a specific term within a book or a movie. And FreeTime is a set of parental controls that lets parents set limits on time and content.

Also, you can find a remarkable library of ebooks is built by Amazon for powering Kindles, but if you're into watching new shows and downloading media at large, you'll probably be better served by Amazon's ecosystem. But if it's apps, Google's Nexus 7 has the entire Google Play app market at its fingertips, which means a wider, better selection of games and software across the board.

Choice

If you just like to watch some movies or read some books,or a present to give to your parents, I believe Amazon Kindle Fire HD is your best choice, but if you are someone on a tight budget, students looking for a cheap laptop replacement , business travelers, or the mobile gamer, you may need to buy a Nexus 7.Of course, there are people who don’t mind the thing above, then just follow your hearts.

Amazon Kindle Fire HD,A Big Hit on Tablet Market After Nexus 7

Amazon Kindle Fire HD
When Google Nexus 7 has proved itself by its tremendous success, Amazon takes the wraps off people’s long-anticipated new tablets, the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD and the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD. Although the shipment is said to be on Sep. 14, the order has already started yesterday.
With the price of $199, the same as the current darling, the Nexus 7, the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD adds more storage (16GB), faster performance, and a high-resolution display (1280x800) into the mix and with better hardware, which will the new kindle fire HD go even further to eat into the competition. Also you can take the 32GB for $249 (32GB).

Along with a slightly bigger screen (1920x1200),the larger 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD has the same hardware improvements. It is designed for content consumption in every way, and at $299 will likely be a big holiday seller. It will be available in November to reach that holiday crowd. There's also an extra-fancy Fire HD with AT&T's 4G LTE support priced at $499 for 32GB and $599 for 64GB.

The new Kindle Fire HD also includes dual-band 2.4 and 5GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi. And Amazon announces that they use two antennas the first time in a tablet for 802.11n' built-in MIMO (multiple input, multiple outputs) functionality and make the Kindle Fire HD 21 percent faster Wi-Fi than the iPad. For a processor, the new Kindle Fire HD uses a Texas Instruments OMAP 4470 processor, which is a quad-core ARM-based processor. Bezos claims this processor is faster than Nvidia’s Tegra 3.What android system it will run is not certain.

Speaking of the features, lots of consumerism features are supplied such as FreeTime to let your kids not spend all day on the tablet; Dolby speakers for music and movies; X-Ray for Movies to let you get film info from IMDB while you're watching a film; and so on. Besides, the tablet comes with Microsoft Exchange support and out of the box can sync e-mail, contacts and calendars with Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo.

So you maybe wonder whether Amazon has profits to sell these at this price point. Well as Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said, “We want to make money when people use our device not when they buy our devices.” And it really gives all the people especially the kindle users the big surprise with its amazing performance and low price.

The Kindle Fire HD won’t offer a pure Android experience like the Nexus 7, but for Kindle users, Amazon Prime members, and those simply looking for a low-priced device to consume media on, the HD makes an extremely convincing argument in its favor, and also it will be a powerful competitor for both Google Nexus 7 and Apple iPad series including the forthcoming iPad Mini.

How to watch videos on Google nexus 7 or other Jelly Bean devices?

When you are excited to get the long-anticipated Google Nexus 7 ordered on the Internet or you just think you are lucky enough to upgrade your android system to Jelly Bean, later you will find out, Adobe Flash isn’t officially supported in the newest Android version, 4.1 Jelly Bean and then you cannot watch the video with your devices. Though the default browser for the Nexus 7 and other Jelly Bean devices is now Chrome, which has built-in Flash support in the desktop versions, this does not apply to mobile devices. Maybe you just want to download the video then watch it on your device, but sometimes you need to convert the video since Jelly Bean don't support all the video formats .Fortunately, there are still some ways, following will be introduced, to watch the streaming videos on your Jelly Bean gadgets.

Abode Flash
You cannot download the flash app on the Google Play and Adobe warned that attempts to install Flash on Jelly Bean devices wouldn’t work, but a couple of XDA-Developers forum members have already found a way to do just that. On devices that upgraded to Jelly Bean, such as the Galaxy Nexus, the stock “Browser” app still exists. Users can sideload the Flash APK and enable it via the browser’s settings, then enjoy surfing and viewing media as before.
Nexus 7 flash
Nexus 7 that comes with Jelly Bean pre-installed no longer have the Browser app, just Chrome. And mobile Chrome won’t hook up with Flash even if it’s installed. Then you need to install the Browser app from previous Android versions. That, coupled with sideloading Flash, will get you back to normal. And you can get the detailed how-to and APK downloads from XDA Developers.

When you successfully installed the Flash, you can watch the video on your Nexus 7with a higher quality and impacted performance. You can just pop open your browser at any time and stream Flash video.

Plex is an all-in-one solution that uses a media server on your computer to route Flash video to your device. It works on Android devices running 1.6 or later. The set up process was a little arduous. The server requires the installation of some Visual Studio redistributables on Windows, and it pops up a lot of UAC warnings, once we got up and running, we were able to add plug-ins and local content easily. Plex currently supports over 200 Channels including CNET, YouTube, Vimeo, Revision3 and many other popular online sources so that you can watch the videos on these websites with it.
Plex

A more expansive option is the new PlayOn service. With PlayOn Mobile you can watch all of the online content from Hulu, Netflix Instant Queue*, Comedy Central, MLB.tv*, CNN, CBS, ESPN, ESPN3, TV.com, SpikeTV, The Ultimate Fighter, Amazon VOD, TBS, BET, and many more. Also, you will have to install a desktop server for this app and the Adobe Flash Player app on your phone or tablet as well, but the set up was s breeze compared to Plex. The app itself is free, but you need a yearly subscription to PlayOn to use it after the 14-day trial period. It can work over Wi-Fi or 3G.

Although there are apps to watch video, flash is the best and preferred way for us to watch video on Jelly Bean Devices.

10 things to Start your New Nexus 7 tablet

Nexus 7's home
The Nexus 7 tablet by Google is a great gadget for the price, but can be overwhelming for the new buyer. That's what it seems from the constant correspondence I get from new buyers asking me what to do first with the new purchase. Colleague David Gewirtz is in that crowd, having just bought a Nexus 7 and complaining to me he can't find online what he should do first. This is for David and all the others in the same boat.

Once your Nexus 7 is out of the box follow the onscreen instructions to get it set up for use. That entails supplying your Google Account (aka Gmail) information and entering in your WiFi network details.

Now that your Nexus 7 is online and logged in here's what you should do next.

Notification Shade Rotation

1. Turn on auto-rotation. For some reason Google has decided that the Nexus 7 is best used in portrait (long-wise up and down) orientation. That's not true for some uses, so swipe down from the very top of the screen to make the notifications shade drop down. Look for the little tablet with rotation arrows around it and tap it. That's it, your Nexus 7 will now rotate the screen to landscape orientation (long-wise left and right) when you turn the tablet around.

2. Buy Ultimate Rotation app. The auto-rotation enabled in #1 above works in any app but not on the home screen where you spend a lot of your time. The Ultimate Rotation app fixes that oversight of Google's by allowing you to rotate the screen any time, even on the home screen. The app does a lot of other things too, but for now just install it and let your screen rotate.

3. Buy SwiftKey 3 Tablet app. The default onscreen keyboard with the Jelly Bean version of Android on the Nexus 7 is pretty good, but if you want the best typing experience in my opinion get SwiftKey. This keyboard learns how you write by watching you as time progresses, and it quickly gets smart enough to figure out what you are going to type next.

It presents the words it thinks you want to enter as you type, and often figures out what word you will next enter based on the one you are typing now. Just tap the word in the box and it is entered for you, no typing required. The app is cheap and simply wonderful.

In the landscape orientation you can split the keyboard into two halves as in the image above to make it easier to type with thumbs while holding the tablet.

4. Configure email. The Nexus 7 can handle Gmail and most any email account but they must be set up initially. The Gmail set up is as simple as running the Gmail app which logs you in and begins syncing your mail with Gmail.

For email accounts other than Gmail run the Email app and follow the onscreen instructions to configure your email. This can handle most email accounts without additional information required.

Be sure and enter your preferred signature tag in whatever email accounts you configure before you start sending email.

5. Update all installed apps. Run the Play Store app preinstalled on your tablet and hit the My Apps icon (down arrow over a line) at the top of the screen. You should see several apps that show an update available, hit the update all button and let it do its thing. In just a few minutes all your installed apps will be updated to the latest version. The first app update may give you the option to automatically update in the future, I recommend allowing this to happen by ticking this box. Account Settings (188x300)

6. Set up social networks. If you use Facebook, Twitter, or Skype you should set them up so the Nexus 7 can sync with them. Go into Settings and scroll down to the Accounts section and add each network you use.

7. Set up home screens. The Nexus 7 has five home screens accessed by swiping left and right on the default screen. You can put app icons and widgets on these home screens to arrange things as you prefer. You can access apps and widgets by hitting the Apps icon in the center of the dock on the home screen.

The Nexus 7 ships with lots of apps and widgets installed, experiment with these to find the ones you like, then drag them to the home screen. The Play Store is full of apps and other widgets so investigate them at will.

If you don't like any of the widgets or apps Google has preset on the homescreens you can remove them. Hold down on the app/widget and drag it up to the Remove X that appears at the top of the screen. Removing an app/widget this way only removes it from the home screen, not delete it for good.

8. Set up the dock. The dock at the bottom of the home screen initially has 5 apps picked by Google for you. The dock is available from any of the 5 home screens and you should put the apps you use most for easy access.

The dock will accept as many as 6 icons, so decide which you want and drag them down to the dock in the order you prefer. If your app is replacing one already in the dock first drag the existing icon in the dock up to the home screen to remove it from the dock. Then drag your new app into place. Home Screen Portrait.

9. Install Tablified Market HD. The Google Play Store is chock-full of apps but it can be a daunting task to find the good ones. It is especially hard to find the ones that work well on the tablet. The free Tablified Market HD app is a great app for finding all the apps in the Store for the tablet. Tablified Market HD app (188x300)

The apps listed in Tablified are categorized to make finding specific types easy, and there is full search capability to also facilitate finding good apps. Discovering good apps for the Nexus 7 is fun with this app installed.

You can find it by searching for it by name in the Google Play Store.

10. Set up streaming music from the cloud. If you buy music from the Google Music store or the Amazon MP3 store the Nexus 7 can play your existing music collection by streaming it from the web. This requires a network connection for playing your music but saves valuable tablet storage space which is limited on the Nexus 7.

The Google Play app (preinstalled) is used to listen to Google music collections. Run the app and confirm your Google Account information. Open the settings to set the options you prefer for streaming your music to the tablet.

To stream your Amazon MP3 music from the Amazon Cloud install the Amazon MP3 app in the Play Store. Run it and log into your Amazon account. You will see your entire music collection which is ready for streaming.

If you have downloaded some of your music from either of these services you can set each music playing app to only play locally stored music when there is no web connection.

Best Cheap Tablets Under $200 for 2012

With the tablets becoming more and more popular, plenty of folks want to own one. For the powerful functions and portable value, you can see tablets everywhere, like school, company and even meeting room. Of course tablets are all the rage, but not everyone can afford a $500 iPad or android tablet. The good news is that competition among an active tablets market should eventually drive down prices. In fact, Amazon Kindle Fire has already started that process and then Google nexus 7 continue the process. And many other good android tablets have started to come down a bit in price. Here we can see a list of best cheap tablets for 2012.

Google Nexus 7
Undoubtedly, Google nexus 7 brings the tablet to a climax and it turns out that cheap price also can produce best android tablet. At $199,Nexus 7 is a great balance of performance and price for anyone not married to the Apple ecosystem. It’s a revolutionary steal that’s more advanced and powerful than the Transformer, but just as cheap, entertaining, and portable as the much slower Fire. You might have to do a little hunting to find great content on the Nexus 7 (m0re on that later), but 600,000 apps in the Google Play and a mediocre movie, music, and magazine selection is enough to get by for this class of device, especially if you’re willing to take the time to rip the music and movies you already own to use on it. Google nexus 7 can be a miracle of android tablet in 2012, and you will never regret buying it.

Kindle Fire
Kindle Fire is produced by Amazon, a well-known online retailer. The Kindle Fire is a 7-inch tablet that links seamlessly with Amazon's impressive collection of digital music, video, magazine, and book services in one easy-to-use package. It boasts a great Web browser, and its curated android app store includes most of the big must-have apps (such as Netflix, Pandora, and Hulu). The Fire has an ultra-affordable price tag, and the screen quality is exceptional for the price. Though it lacks the tech specs found on more-expensive Apple and Android tablets, the $199 Kindle Fire is an outstanding entertainment value that prizes simplicity over techno-wizardry. And if you don’t like nexus 7, maybe kindle fire is your great choice.

 Nook Tablet
The Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet is a full-featured tablet with a vibrant 7-inch touch screen, built-in Wi-Fi, 16GB of built-in storage, and a microSD expansion slot. In addition to a full slate of books and magazines, it offers more than a thousand apps through its integrated (and growing) Nook Store and is optimized for Netflix and Hulu Plus video playback. The built-in Web browser works well and offers Flash support. The things we should concerned are there are no access to full Android Market; no Bluetooth, GPS, or camera; no video rental (or purchase) option; sideloaded content beyond 1GB needs to be housed on microSD for Nook tablet.Whatever, the Nook Tablet is a worthy--albeit slightly more expensive--competitor to the Kindle Fire.

Blackberry Playbook
RIM’s BlackBerry smartphones have an impressive following in the UK business community, but the momentum failed to carry over to the 7-inch PlayBook tablet. Now, nearly a year after its launch, RIM has released an operating system upgrade that adds much-needed features, and with most retailers cutting the price of the PlayBook substantially, it’s become a serious contender. The dual-core 1GHz processor will let you run several apps in different windows and swap between them. Each app takes up the full screen, but swipe upwards and it’s minimised into a window tile that you can scroll through or close down. The new OS update brings support for ported Android apps like Angry Birds, which means the limited selection on App World should start to grow. This is a very well made tablet available at a very reasonable price. Compared to the other devices, the PlayBook stands out as the clear favourite.

Kobo - Vox tablet
The Kobo Vox is something you should consider if you really are on a shoestring budget – being the cheapest Android tablet in this rundown – you can pick one up. Kobo Vox has very little storage space (8GB, approx. 10 movies or 4,000 books), but you can insert up to a 32GB SD card into it to expand the memory if needed, for just a small price. Mainly built as an eReader, this is a great 7″ tablet for those that are considering both a Kindle and a tablet. Essentially, it is both of the two fused together in a stylish little package. The quilted style backing is something that stands out and Kobo can be proud of their innovatively on that one. The unique design continues into the buttons, with the power, menu and back buttons all being touch sensitive (and therefore not sticking out).Compared to others, maybe Kobo Vox is kind of low popularity, but it still be a good choice for those who want to look for a real good cheap android tablet.

Certainly there are many other cheap android tablets, but these tablets I have listed will be the best for 2012.Maybe you will like them, too.

Using Nexus 7 with a keyboard?

nexus 7 keyboard
My Nexus 7 is almost always in my hand, surfing the web, researching articles, reading an ebook, or otherwise consuming content from the web. It is particularly useful for those purposes as I have detailed in the past. I am getting asked if the Nexus 7 would be useful for creating content with an external keyboard. My answer is absolutely not.

I have a reputation for using tablets in my work by using them with keyboards to write thousands of words. They are very good at that as my working history proves, but only to a point.

The Nexus 7 will never be good for writing as I do, even with a good external keyboard. That's due to one factor: size. While the 7-inch display makes the Nexus 7 perfect for a portable companion, it is too limiting for use as a laptop replacement.

This limit is due to two factors, keyboard width and display size. Just like the original 7-inch netbook, the Eee PC, the Nexus 7 is too narrow to support a case with a workable keyboard. I never could type well on the Eee PC, and the same would be true for any keyboard for the Nexus 7.

The screen size is even worse for using in a laptop configuration with a keyboard. While the small display is perfect while held in the hand not too far from the eyes, it's a different ballgame when propped up with a keyboard for typing. The small screen is too far from the eyes and just too darn small to be useful.

That's why I can't see ever using the Nexus 7 as a standin for writing, even if it's the only gadget in the bag. While larger tablets like the iPad work well for me for such tasks, I am not willing to use something that makes the process difficult. A tiny display would certainly do that so I'll stick to using the iPad for writing and the Nexus 7 for most everything else.

Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire,Which One Should You Buy?

Nexus 7
Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire are two hot and favorable android tablets at present, and most of people cannot decide to buy which one.My suggestion is buy the Nexus 7 unless you're a huge Amazon user. Then get the Fire.

There you go. No beating around the bush. Just a simple answer. Or is it?

Let's regroup for a second and really look at the question. The Kindle Fire is Amazon's $199 7-inch Android-based Kindle device. It's WiFi-only. The Nexus 7 is Google's $199 7-inch Android device. It's also WiFi-only.

Now you can see why there's some level of confusion. The two devices are the same size and the same price. There are some differences, however.

Physical device

The Kindle Fire weights 2.6 ounces more than the Nexus 7. It's 14.6 ounces, while the Nexus 7 is 12 ounces. In a handheld device, 2 ounces is something you'll notice.

More to the point, the Nexus 7 is a lot more machine for your $199. It's got a much faster CPU, a graphics processor, twice the RAM of the Kindle Fire, and (for an extra fifty bucks) can store twice as much as the Kindle Fire.

On raw horsey-power, the Nexus 7 gets the win.

Android OS

Although both devices are based on Android, you'd be hard-pressed to notice Android on the Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire is a Kindle first, with Android 2.3 running underneath, hidden from view.

On the other hand, the Nexus 7 is Google's current benchmark tablet, running Android 4.1 (otherwise known as Jelly Bean).

On Android compatibility, the Nexus 7 gets the win.

Software compatibility

Here's where things start getting interesting. You'd think the Nexus 7 would run more Android apps, but because it's the first Jelly Bean product in a 7-inch tablet form, many Android apps (like Instagram) won't run because they check the version number. 4.1 is higher than many apps are comfortable with.

On the other hand, the Kindle Fire runs apps primarily from the Amazon app store. While you can side-load regular Android apps, there's some hoop jumping involved.

When it comes to software compatibility, at the time of writing, neither wins the top slot. It's a draw.

Gaming

There are quite a few nice, little games for the Kindle Fire. But the Nexus 7 has a built-in Tegra 3 T30L graphics processing unit. Almost, without a doubt, and especially since the system also has twice the RAM, the Nexus 7 will be the better gaming machine.

Nexus 7 gets the win.

Security

This one is interesting. Android security is somewhat problematic, especially if you decide to download apps from secondary app stores. Apps purchased through Amazon have a much higher chance of being safe. In fact, the entire Kindle experience is tied into your Amazon account, and is secured by Amazon's relatively strong attention to detail.

For security, the Kindle Fire gets the win.

Media

Here's where Amazon takes the lead from Google. Amazon has a rich media experience, and also provides a substantial library of free movies and TV shows to Prime customers. Google Play isn't nearly as good. Jason Perlow also pointed out that only actual Kindle devices (not just those devices running Kindle software, like an iPhone), can take things out from the Kindle Lending Library. So if you want to read best-sellers for free, the Fire is your best bet.

On the other hand, the Nexus 7 will play that media better, because it has substantially more power and a higher-resolution display.

We'll call this a draw.

Which should you get?

Without a doubt, the Kindle Fire is a Kindle, while the Nexus 7 is an Android tablet. If you want a Kindle more than you want an Android tablet, then you might be happier with the Kindle Fire. Likewise, if you want to stay out of the morass that is the Android ecosystem and just want to stay in the welcoming, comforting arms of Amazon, you'll be happier with the Kindle Fire.

Kindle FireOn the other hand, if you want a powerful, inexpensive, solidly designed pure Android tablet, the Nexus 7 is a no-brainer.

My wife and I have two iPads and two Kindle Fires at home. I'm honestly thinking about selling my Kindle Fire and getting a Nexus 7 to replace it. If you do decide to sell your Kindle Fire, make sure you remember to decommission it before you sell it. Otherwise, the device has access to your entire Amazon account.

Hmmm...maybe the Kindle Fire isn't that secure, after all.

Get you started with the Nexus 7 with five Great tips

Getting started with the Nexus 7 can be a bit daunting if it's your first tablet, or if you're not familiar with Android. But, that's why we're here. We have rounded up the best Nexus 7 tips and tricks to help get you started with your latest tech addiction.

Customizing the Nexus 7

The first thing you're going to want to do is personalize and customize your Nexus 7. Donald Bell came through with a great video full of Nexus 7 tips and tricks. You will be shown how to change widgets, the wallpaper, or even unlock the Nexus 7 using nothing more than your pretty face. You'll feel a lot more comfortable with the Nexus 7 after watching the video.

Google Nexus 7 tips and tricks

Taking a screenshot

After customizing your Nexus 7, you'll probably want to show off your setup. You can take a screenshot on the Nexus 7. With the new actionable notifications in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, sharing a screenshot is possible from the notification tray.

Learn how to take a screenshot on the Nexus 7

Print using the cloud

From time to time you may need to print a document, photo or even a screenshot from the Nexus 7. Thankfully, setting up Google Cloud Print and using an app to print from your Nexus 7 is a breeze.

You can print e-mail attachments and nearly any document or Web page from the device to any printer you have set up with Google Cloud Print.

Where's the camera app?

The Nexus 7 comes equipped with a 1.2 MP front-facing camera, and no rear camera. The front camera is intended to be used for video chats, but third-party apps can also take advantage of the less-than-stellar quality camera.

One thing you'll find missing from the Nexus 7, however, is the Android Camera app.

Well, thanks to a developer, you can install an app from Google Play and gain access to the standard Jelly Bean Camera app.

Turn the Nexus 7 into a Kindle Fire -- kind of

If you're switching from the Kindle Fire to the Nexus 7, bringing content you've already purchased over with you is possible -- to an extent. The process is simple; you'll just need to know what settings need to be changed and how to access the Amazon App Store on your Nexus 7.

Thankfully, Donald Bell has put together another great video showing you how to get your Kindle Fire content on to your Nexus 7.

Bonus tip

USB accessories

Sharon Vaknin recently showed us all how a little $2 adapter, called a USB on-the-go (OTG), would allow you to connect USB accessories to an Android device. She was able to connect and use a PS3 controller, a keyboard, a wireless mouse, and even her iPhone with an Android device. Make sure you read the list of supported Android devices and accessories in her post, then watch the video to see how easy a USB OTG is to use.
