Phablet: Have you Got Ready for it?

Condition is, tablets are getting mini and smartphone are getting big. So what’s the middle? The answer is phablet, an informal term for consumer touch-screen devices with screens that are between five and seven inches. You are probably not familiar with the word “phablet”, but you must have heard of the devices between five and seven inches such as the well-known 5.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note. Following let’s just get some details about it.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2-5 inch phablet
The rise of “Pablet”

The word “phablet” is first used by Richi Jennings in his post to analyze the failure of the 5 inch Dell Streak, which is the first phablet released on June 4, 2010.Then the phablet starts its way in the tech markets.

Representative of Phablets in Market

Samsung Galaxy Note
The first released phablet Dell Streak is the failure, and the later Samsung Galaxy Note has become the first phablet to enjoy massive commercial success with over over 5 million sales in only 5 months. The Samsung Galaxy Note sports a 1.5 Ghz dual-core Exynos processor with 5.3 inch 800×1280 super AMOLED display. It includes 1GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. Besides, there are two cameras, an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. The device runs Android 2.3 OS, and the ICS upgrade will be available for the device.

The main feature about Samsung Galaxy Note is the inclusion of a premium suite of apps optimized for use with the S-Pen stylus.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2
As the first Samsung phone to employ Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 finally came to us at the beginning of October,2012. With a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED screen (1,280x720-pixel resolution), Galaxy Note 2 is bigger than Galaxy Note. And its specs are better includes a 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos CPU, 2 GiB RAM, 64GB internal storage with up to 64 GB expanded storage,an 8 MP rear camera and 1.9 MP front camera, and a 3,100 mAh battery.

Compared to the original Galaxy Note, this one 's pressure-sensitive S Pen stylus features a slightly thicker design and the new feature Air View allows a user to preview content by hovering the pen over the content.

If the Samsung Galaxy Note develop the phablet, then Note 2 makes the phablet hotter. And it has become the strong competitor of iPhone 5 and Lumia 920.

LG Optimus Vu 2
With the impressive high-end releases like the Optimus 4X HD,LG has stepped up its game in the Android smartphone world. And also it has released the 5″ LG Optimus Vu phablet to compete for the popular Samsung Galaxy Note. And later the successor LG Optimus Vu 2 comes with a 1.5 Ghz dual-core processor,2GB RAM ,up to 32GB memory, a slightly large 2150 mAh battery and an 8MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front camera, and its resolution is 768×1024 with 256ppi.

LG Optimus Vu 2 runs the Android 4.0 Optimus UI. Obviously, Optimus Vu 2 seems very strong but it is really not as good as Note 2.But it is still a great model of phablet.

Panasonic Eluga Power
Running Android 4.0, Panasonic brought us its 5″ Eluga Power phablet with beautifully design and streamline, allowing it to fit quite comfortably in the hand and easy one-handed typing. It uses a 1.5 Ghz dual-core processor and gives us 8GB internal storage and 1GB RAM. Google and windows surface Phablets
After the blooming of Nexus 4, we just expect the Nexus 5 which can probably come with a 5 inch display with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Rumors said that Sony Nexus aka LT30i will be the one .And the surface is the most arguable device in 2012, and I believe it will finally come to 5 inch.

In these days, both the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire are becoming hot and hot. At the mention of Kindle Fire, the first thing comes in my head is it is a best E-book reader while Nexus 7 is a best entertainment tablet. It is of course reasonable that you cannot decide which to buy for your Christmas gift if you just want to choose from them, even though you have compared them.

Fortunately, now we can get (nearly) all of Amazon's great Android offerings on the Nexus 7 to turn it into a real Kindle Fire including the Kindle E-books.
Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire
In Android 4.1, you can enjoy Google Books, Google Music, Google Video, and the Google Play app store. Of course, you can upgrade the system to Android 4.2 to enjoy the new amazing features. But there are still plenty of people prefer to Amazon for books, music, and movies. Luckily, it is easy to get free Amazon's Kindle reader app and Amazon MP3 app using the Google Play app store. These two apps will give you access to your Kindle book library and Aussie Amazon MP3 collection.

Before you see Amazon-purchased Android apps on Nexus 7, you need to set Nexus 7’s security to allow installation of apps from "unknown sources". Enter into Nexus 7 settings, tap on Security, and check the box for "Unknown Sources".

Besides, you can get Amazon's Appstore app for Android from Amazon by visiting the Appstore Web page.Enter your email and check the download link at your e-mail on the Nexus 7.After the operations, you can find your purchased apps and start to download Android apps from google.

But you cannot really enjoy the Amazon video content (including free videos for Amazon Prime) since the unavailable Abode Flash service and the bad performance of the Google Video app and storefront matching the content, pricing, and capabilities of Amazon's video service.

But it is enough, right? At least, you have got the Kindle book and app library. So do you want to enjoy the Kindle Fire service on Nexus 7?

Nexus 10 Review: A Best but Cheap 10 inch Tablet

Google has released the second tablet Nexus 10 this month accompanied with Samsung after the launch of 7 inch Nexus 7.It has boomed since it is available at Google Play and it is quickly sold out internationally as well as LG Nexus 4.So, why does it attract people soon? Where does it better then Nexus 7? Let’s just explore the features of Nexus 10.
Nexus 10 review
Competitive Hardware and Display

Key points.
With a notable 10.1-inch 2560 x 1600 WQXGA display(300 ppi), Samsung gives Nexus 10 a dual-core 1.7GHz Exynos 5250 A15 processor with Mail T604 graphics and 2GB of RAM. You have two options of storage 16GB and 32GB.It has doubled the resolution of Nexus 7 and created the highest resolution even iPad 4 which sports 2048*1536(264ppi) cannot compete for in tablet market at present, the 1.7 GHz processor is the fastest as well.

Portability.
It measures 8.9mm and 603 grams which slightly thinner and lighter than the full-size iPad's 632 grams.

Camera.
Nexus 10 has a 5-megapixel rear camera for shooting videos at 1080p resolution, better than cameras on other tablets, going with a camera app. Of more practical use is the 1.9-megapixel front camera for video calls for Google+ and other social work.

Ports and
sensors.Ports include microUSB (for charge) and micro HDMI, and there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack and Pogo pins for use with a dock. All of the usual sensors include an accelerometer, digital compass, ambient light, gyroscope, barometer, microphone and GPS.

Battery.
The battery is a 9,000 mAh Li-Poly pack which Google says is likely good for up to nine hours of HD video playback.

Display.
With the 16:9 aspect ratio screen and more-than-Full-HD resolution, Nexus 10 is ideal for widescreen video playback without black framing bars.

Featured Software

Just like Nexus 4, Nexus 10 runs the latest
Android 4.2 Jelly bean. It takes many new useful and dazzling features. Most notably is Photo Sphere which allows you to create 360-degree images. You can also share the images or even add to Google Maps. Google Now, a Google's voice-powered assistant similar to Siri, brings you the information you care about like sports scores, weather, and even the status of packages from Amazon that have been shipped to you. Also there are many new amazing features about Android 4.2, you can check out this article” New features of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean You should know “.

Better Entertainment

Playing games.
Thanks to its high HD display, playing games on Nexus 10 has become a more excited experience. When playing a heavy game like Angry Birds Star Wars, it was awesome than ever. You will feel that never too clear.

Content side
.Approximately 600,000 apps and games are available, and up to 20,000 songs and many films can found at Google Play store, less than Apple store but Google is now working hard on it and more and more contents will be offered.

Fastest Web.
With a strong Wi-Fi connection, you can get a fast web speed and use YouTube as a breeze. Also, the 2 GB of RAM helped apps open quickly and made multi-tasking very efficient.

The bad Parts

No memory card slot.
Nexus 10 comes in 16GB and 32GB models, and if that’s simply not enough, you just cannot expand the storage, which is really terrible for us.

No 4G LTE.
If you want a 4G LTE Nexus 10 just like Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9, you will be disappointed. At least at the moment, Nexus 10 is a Wi-Fi only tablet.

Price

$399
gets you the 16GB version, while $499 hooks the 32GB model, which has $100 lower than iPad 4.

Conclusion

With superior design and swift performance, Nexus 10 is no doubt one of the best Android tablets to date. Including beautifully sharp screen with highest HD display and the fastest processor of any Android tablet, the best Android OS and amazing Photo Sphere, Nexus 10 make a difference. It's light, durable, and it is an incredibly cool concept. The $399 price tag is not expensive with such specs. But the lack of expanding storage is still one thing that keeps people away from it. But if you don’t care this and you just want a cheaper tablet with more customization, then go with the Nexus 10.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Review

AT&T today announced that it will be offering the LTE Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet on November 9 with the $499 price tag. Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 looks and behaves very similarly to the Galaxy Note 10.1, but Tab 2 10.1 drops the price and the spec to deliver a more affordable Android tablet. Just let’s have more details about it.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

Design

It is both slightly heavier and a bit less svelte than its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. You can find a power/sleep button, a volume rocker, a 32GB capacity microSD slot, an IR blaster, and a headphone jack on the top edge of tablet from the left. Besides, two 2-inch-long speakers stretch vertically along the left and right bezel. Along the bottom edge sits a dock connector and microphone pinhole. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 houses a 2-megapixel front camera for VGA and a 3-megapixel rear camera. No HDMI option.

The 1280x800 pin-sharp pixels display on tablet, doing its best to make your movies, pictures and web pages look clear and bright. The screen in 10.1 inch is wonderful with nice sensibility, quick response and accurate brushing and pressing.

Features

  • Fast 1G dual core processor provides a smooth user experience whether you're playing games or browsing the web. Also, the microSD card slot allows you to add up to 32GB of additional data storage or easily transfer music and picture files.
  • Smart Remote app in Tab 2 10.1 lets you get instant access to thousands of movies and TV shows via the pre-loaded Samsung Media Hub, enjoy live updates from all your social sites and access thousands of apps on Google Play.
  • You can customize your apps with Samsung's exclusive TouchWiz, which gives you the live content you want, including e mail, websites and your social networks.
  • The built-in IR Blaster turns your tablet into a universal remote helping you easily find your favorite shows.
  • Running on Android 4.0 ICS which makes common actions more visible and lets users navigate with simple, intuitive gestures. You can enjoy the features of ICS including Multitasking, the recent app button, Home screen folders, favorites tray, and resizable widgets, etc. It is less advanced than the Android 4.2, but that's hardly a disaster.
  • Samsung apps like Music Hub, Media Hub, and Game Hub, a built-in screenshot app, and the Mini Apps tray located on the bottom of the screen are offered consisting of a calculator, notes, calendar, music player, and clock.
  • A free one-year subscription to Dropbox* to store up to 50 GB of your favorite digital content--including photos, videos, and documents--and share files with coworkers, friends, and family members.
  • The large 7,000mAh battery does a pretty good job of maintaining the Tab's many duties, and you should get more than a single day of heavy use on a single charge.
Final thoughts
Galaxy Tab 2 offers some serious improvement to its predecessor as a good value Android tablet with Ice Cream Sandwich and a fine screen and some special features like Smart Remote. It is a dual-core $400 tablet with 16GB of built-in storage, however, which is higher than quad-core Asus Transformer Pad TF300 with 32GB of storage. Of course, its TouchWiz and IR Blaster can add points to it and if you are fan to Samsung, you may consider it.

New features of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean You should know

Android 4.2
Along with the announcement of Nexus 4 and Nexus 10, Google brought the new advanced system Android 4.2 going by the same name of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. So what’s new compared to Android 4.1? Can it really draw people’s attention? Following just let’s have a look.

Multi-user support

If you use Android 4.2-powered tablets, you'll be able to have multiple users. Each user will have his unique home-screen, background, widgets, apps and games. That means you can share your tablets with your spouse or friends but with different tablets experience. Unluckily, smartphones based on Android 4.2 cannot support multi-user at the moment.

Photo Sphere

If you like taking photos with mobile device, then Photo Sphere can be your addict. Photo Sphere is a panorama application that allows you to stitch images into a larger one not only in vertical orientation in full 360 degree. You can share them on Google+ with your friends and family, or even add them to Google Maps for the world to see.

Gesture Typing

Now you can write messages easier than ever with Gesture Typing. You can now just glides over the letters you want to type, and the new improved keyboard will find the word you want to type. With predictive input and a futuristich blueish trace your fingers leave on the screen, Gesture Typing seems more useful than Swype. The improved text-to-speech capabilities works even when you don't have a data connection, so you can type with your voice everywhere you go.

Miracast

Android 4.2 let you through your screen to any TV, DVD-player, or other media device that supports Miracast. Miracast, an AirPlay-like protocol, is the trade name for Wi-Fi Direct or WiDi. You can stream Internet TV shows and movies from your smartphone or tablet to your TV via a compatible device or a Miracast adapter.

Improved Google Now

Without question, Google Now was already a killer Jelly Bean feature. With the inclusion of cards containing flight information, restaurant reservations, hotel confirmations, shipping details and more, you can live with ease .It uses Gmail to pick up data like flights ,hotel reservations , nearby movie times, attractions, photogenic locales, and concerts by your favorite artists and show them to you in a card just when you need them.

Daydream screensaver

With Daydream, you can display photo slideshows, news headlines, and the like when idle or docked. It is actually a smart screen-saver.

Expandable Notifications

Built upon the actionable notifications introduced in 4.1 Jelly Bean, Expandable Notifications let you expand notifications from more apps. It is partly a function of Google Now, where notifications are “cards” that can be acted upon from the drop down menu.

Android Beam

You probably have heard of NFC, a unique feature introduced in the Android 4.1.And Android 4.2 built Android Beam, the NFC that enables people to share photos, websites, music, directions, apps or videos with a single touch.

Android 4.2 will be released on November 13th for Nexus 4, 10.And I think these new features are indeed attractive and let’s just wait for its come.

Software

The small tablets all runs android system except for iPad Mini, which runs the latest Apple OS iOS.(Interested in operating system, compare them here.)

Beyond the basic software loaded on other three android tablets, Apple also give a big deal that offering the third-party content and software ecosystem. That’s a huge app ecosystem right out of the gate; over 275,000 apps are designed for iPad including iPad Mini. And Apple has all the video and music you could want. The advance Wi-Fi technology will take you into an faster internet world.

The Nexus 7 runs stock, unmodified Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean bringing the best Android experience to you with no clayware apps, no foolish UI changes, and no waiting on updates. There are approximately 600,000 apps at Google Play, but most of them are not optimized for tablets.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD, on the other hand, is running the most modified version of Android based on Android 4.0 ICS. Amazon has transplanted in a combination of Bing and Amazon services in the system. The Kindle Fire HD presents itself with ads, suggested items, and the prevalent Kindle branding. There are only 51,000 apps available at google.

Nook HD comes with the Android 4.0 ICS. It offers some special service of Nook magazine, Nook Video, Nook Catalog for shopping and the others to let you get a better experience of Nook. , Over 2.5 million books and about 10,000 apps are offered at Barnes & Noble store. The highest resolution of the small tablets at present on Nook HD can give you an incredible video and text experience.

Verdict

From the comparison of software and specs, we can found that iPad Mini is the same, or kind of a little higher, level as Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD. Overall, Nook HD is the lowest one , but it still has its competitive compared to iPad Mini’s high price. We now just don’t know whether iPad Mini can performs better or something special are neglected, but you need to think twice if you want to buy a iPad Mini considering the specs and price and the iPad 4.
